Save our Marsh! Attend the Concord Hearing TODAY

We received an email yesterday from a reader letting us know that the Hoit Road Marsh Wildlife Management Area in Concord is in danger. NH House Bill 571 seeks to repeal recent prohibition of OHRV use on the Marsh, opening the vulnerable ecosystem up to motorcycles and other motorized vehicles.

There will be a hearing on HB 571 today – Wednesday, February 10 at 3:00 – to repeal the ban on motorized vehicles. People can attend the hearing via Zoom and view it via YouTube.  Also, via the General Court House website, people can register in support or opposition to the legislation, sign up to testify, and/or send emails to the committee.

If you live in Concord, this is a chance for you to support our local ecosystem and make a real difference. Please do your part!

I found this beautiful cover photo on a website called New Hampshire Love It of Leaf It, which offers to help you “find great places to kayak quiet water, bike down a shady path, or snowshoe through the woods. Join us as we explore New Hampshire, slow and easy.”

  1. This is one of many bills proposed by our new legislature that significantly impact our lives. They are coming very quickly, with limited opportunity for pubic input. The link above is a quick, easy way to register your stand on any bill. You should also see the option to submit written comment that will be read into the record. Better still, you can sign up to actually speak at a hearing to voice your opinion. This is an essential time to stand up and be heard.

  2. Thank you! The marsh is a beautiful place to walk, snow snow shoe or x-country ski in the winter. As well, there are so many environmental reasons that allowing motorcycle races on the marsh in this fragile eco-system just don’t make sense!

  3. I cannot attend but, anyone who does, please bring up the fact that although the measure bans “motorized vehicles” , it may include bike trails. Electric bicycles are becoming EXTREMELY popular at the moment and some might think that they can come in “under the radar” but, they are basically electric motorcycles and more of a mechanized hazard. Please see that they are included in the ban. Thanks!

  4. Thanks for sharing. I love the name of that website! Also, it was so easy to go online and oppose the bill. Took a minute!
